Ozone Therapy – Oxygen Enhancement Therapies:
“The prime cause of cancer is the replacement of the respiration of oxygen in normal body cells by a fermentation of sugar”
─ Dr. Otto Warburg, a German physiologist, medical doctor and Nobel laureate.
Dr. Warburg was the first to discover that cancer cells thrive under a non-oxygen environment, as they use other substance (mainly sugar) to produce energy, a process that is called “fermentation”. He was awarded a Nobel Prize for was for the discovery that low oxygen was a characteristic of cancer cells.
However, why does lack of oxygen occur in the first place? A long exposure to toxins, malnutrition, air pollution, bad drinking water, radiation and so forth, would eventually cause our cells, may lead to a load of free radicals, which block the oxygen from being absorbed by the cells. Once our cells are not properly nourished, oxygenated, hydrated and cleansed, it leads to a dysfunction in the cellular mitochondria, the cell’s “energy station”. This leads to a cellular defense mechanism, in which cells revert to a more primitive form of respiration (sugar fermentation), refuse to die, multiply and form a protective barrier, which would usually develop into a tumor.
The assumption behind oxygen enhancement therapies, is that inserting more oxygen into the body, would help reverse this process, or at least stop it from growing. All alkaline oriented therapies, in general, help reduce acidity in the body and this one of the factors cancer needs to survive.
Ozone Therapy
“The ozone therapy is very useful to oxygenate the body, it may kill cancer cells, fight viruses, bacteria, fungus, as well as stimulate the immune system”, says Dr. Alvarez from Stella Maris Clinic, Tijuana.
Ozone therapy can be given over IV, rectal [1] and even absorbed by laying in a warm Jacuzzi enriched with ozone gas. An IV therapy circles the patient’s blood through a bag that contains ozone in its liquid form, and goes back to the patient’s vain and blood stream [2].
Hyperbaric Chamber
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized room or tube. For better effectiveness, the air pressure level should be of three atmospheres or more (3 times higher than normal air pressure when in sea level). Under these conditions, the lungs can absorb more oxygen than it would have, if breathing pure oxygen at a normal air pressure [3].
The blood carries this oxygen throughout the body, helping fight bacteria, stimulating the release of substances called “growth factors” and stem cells, which promote healing.
Hyperbaric Chamber has been around for several decades. Its main use in hospitals is for treating scuba divers who suffer from decompression, “locked” bubbles of air in the blood vessels. Other conditions treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy include serious infections, and wounds that won’t heal due to diabetes or radiation injury [4].
Although it declares there is no sufficient proof that this treatment can help fight cancer, Mayo Clinic does state that an increase level of oxygen in the blood restores the normal levels of blood gases and tissue function to promote healing and fight infection.
